North American Toyota Headquarters Moves To Plano, Texas
April 28, 2014 — Toyota announced plans to move the auto maker’s headquarters to Plano from its current location in Southern California.
Toyota will move its North American headquarters for manufacturing, sales and marketing, and corporate operations to a single, “state-of-the-art” campus in Plano over the next three years. The new campus will bring together approximately 4,000 employees from sales, marketing, engineering, manufacturing and finance who are now scattered around the country.
Developers say the automaker’s new home will be situated on a plot of undeveloped land owned by Plano-based JC Penney near the intersection of the Dallas North Tollway and the Sam Rayburn Tollway.
Mixed-use Project Near New Toyota Headquarters Revs Up
Developers hope to break ground early next year on the first section of the new project, which will feature retail and apartments.
With the first of thousands of Toyota Motor Corp. workers arriving in Plano this summer, developers are rushing to start a new retail and apartment project near the automaker’s headquarters site.
Karahan Cos., Columbus Realty and KDC are working on the first phase of an urban village, which would be constructed on the west side of Dallas North Tollway, north of Legacy Drive.
Karahan said the developers hope to break ground right after the first of the year on the first section of the new project, which will have retail space fronting on public plaza areas and apartments on the floors above. The high-density development would be similar to what Karahan and Columbus Realty have done on the east side of the tollway in Legacy Town Center.
